VEÏNS DE PARCENT came into being in early 2006 because of growing concern about the aggressive development plans (PAIs) that had provisionally been passed by the ruling party in the Town Hall against the wishes of the majority of the people of Parcent. We are an alliance of a variety of local organisations who are not in agreement with this action, including Estimem Parcent, Collectivo Vall de Pop, and the resident associations for El Replá, El Cantalar, and La Solana. Above all, we are non-political, having no links to any existing political party. In fact, we know that many people who support the Partido Popular are in agreement with us in rejecting recent events. What we are trying to do is make people aware of the serious consequences of the decisions taken at the council meeting of 30th January, and encourage them to take action now so that Parcent's future is truly sustainable, well organised, and logical. Our objectives are:
  1. The annulment of the Council Meeting at which the PAIs were approved.
  2. The annulment of the PAIs, and for the existing studies on sustainable growth to be properly examined. Better still, the holding of a referendum on the matter.
  3. The creation of a General Plan that will allow all developments to be handled logically.
  4. Ensure that any money paid to the Town Hall by the promoters is frozen so that it may be repaid to them when the PAIs are rejected, so that Parcent is not left in debt.
